Summer in Place: Python & Valorant

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

Q: What have you been doing over the summer so far?

A: I've been working on college apps, and I've been trying to get as involved in my club as possible, but because of COVID, I can't do much. I'm taking a course for Python, and it involves both AI and Python. Really in those two. I've been talking with friends as much as I can, and I got a chance to play video games again. It’s pretty great that I have time to do that now. I've been exercising a lot more to get into shape, and it's been nice waking up later.

Q: Can you tell us more about the course you’re taking?

A: The first thing they do is teach you Python, which is what I'm doing right now. Then they teach you about neural networks and how to relate that with Python. They teach you a form of AI, and then at the end, you do a final project combining AI and Python.

Q: What video games have you been playing with your friends?

A: We like to play Minecraft together. We have a realm, and then we just build stuff around and mess around with each other. There is this new FPS game called Valorant, and when I was younger, I played another FPS game called CS:GO. So as soon as I heard Valorant came out, I was like “Oh, I want to do this.” [...] I like the game a lot, mostly because it combines aspects from a bunch of other FPS games that I used to play. I think for video games, it's more than just being able to play games and have fun with friends. It’s also another side of your brain that you're working on.

Q: What are you looking forward to in senior year?

A: I’m looking forward to all the senior events assuming that we aren’t doing remote learning. Honestly, having a fixed schedule in my life would be nice. I really feel like the days bleed into each other, and it’s pretty disorienting sometimes.
