Summer in Place: Civilization & Colorado

Q: What are you been up to this summer?

A: Well we had plans to go on vacation, but all of those got canceled. So instead we’re grinding out math and physics. More recently, I was planning on going to a debate camp in Colorado for two weeks, but since it got canceled it’s online, they made it cheaper but also longer per day. So it was supposed to be from 9 to 2, but since they’re Central time, I have to wake up at 6, so it’s really hard. Everyone else is waking up at 11, but I have to be up at 6.

Q: Have you been doing anything fun?

A: My brother is making me play some video games with him. We’re keeping track about our ping pong scores and we play like three times a day now. We have this system called credits, and each credit is worth like $5 and if you win one set of three you get one credit. We compete with each other and swear a lot. He’s younger but he went to these ping pong camps, so he’s getting cocky. I need to start beating him now. Right now, I’m up 2 credits, so he owes me $10. What can I say? I’m just so good at ping pong. [...] I’m watching some k-dramas which are pretty good like The King. It’s good, the dudes there are so hot. For video games, I’ve been playing Minecraft kind of. It’s kinda old though. Most recently, I’ve been playing Civ 6, Civilization VI. You can play as the US or Persia, you can be Gandhi or Teddy Roosevelt. It’s like an empire game and you try to make your thing conquer everyone. Right now me and Andrew, we’re on an easy level, so we’ve conquered everyone like the Aztecs and the Egyptians in the world and we’re just fighting with each other.
