Part 2 - The Presidents: FBLA

Q: What do you want to leave behind?

A: In terms of what I want to leave behind, I guess the lighthearted nature of the club? I feel like FBLA should just be fun, like above anything else, and we have a lot of funny people in the club, so it’s hard having a boring club. I think I really want people to just enjoy their time in FBLA, because I know in college there isn’t going to be anything like this, it’s gonna be a lot more serious. But I feel like, especially in high school, it’s really nice to have a [...] fun and exciting club that you can lean back on.

Q: What are the main selling points of FBLA?

A: Soft skills. I feel like soft skills are super important, because when I was a freshman, maybe it's just a personal thing, but I was super bad at public speaking, I feel like if you compare my freshman self to my senior self, there is a very big difference [...] Because a big part of FBLA is to practice all these soft skills […] You are always forced to reach out to others. So I feel like it’s a way for you to be better at life, soft skills are so important in life - I feel like the ability to just go up, do really well in an interview, or give a really good speech will be so useful in the future, and I feel like everyone should have a really good groundwork for that, and FBLA will do that really well.

Q: What is the biggest thing that you will take away?

A: I talked to a lot of upperclassmen in FBLA that are older than me, and they are all like, “Oh yeah, you forget all about FBLA the second day of college,” so […] I don’t know, [...] I feel like FBLA was the very first stepping stone, in terms of improving my soft skills, cause everyone is just pushing you to be a better leader, a better competitor, a better teammate, and I feel like those essentials, I really developed through FBLA. And yeah, if I trace all the way back, FBLA is the first thing in my personal timeline where I first began developing and practicing these skills.
